A single domain safely handles 100 to 150 sends per day across 2 to 3 inboxes. Teams targeting more volume, running multiple ICP segments simultaneously, or serving multiple clients need multi-domain infrastructure to distribute load and isolate risk.
A blacklist event on a single-domain setup stops all outbound until the listing clears, which can take days. A multi-domain setup lets you route active campaigns to clean secondary domains immediately, with no gap in volume.

Infrastructure Setup
3 DNS records every sending domain needs before first send
Sending domain names should visually belong to a real company: getbrandname.com, trybrandname.com, usebrandname.com. Avoid random strings or unrelated domains. Email providers flag infrastructure that looks deliberately obfuscated.
Every sending domain requires SPF, DKIM, and DMARC configured before warmup begins. Set DMARC to monitoring mode (p=none) for the first 30 days to surface authentication failures before they affect deliverability.
Verify all three records via MXToolbox before connecting any new domain: SPF Lookup passing, DKIM Lookup confirming selector resolution, DMARC Lookup showing a valid policy. Fix DNS first, warm up second, send third.
Warmup Governance
New domains: 21-day warmup minimum before any cold send
Every active sending domain must run warmup in parallel with live campaigns, not only during initial setup. Teams that stop warmup after 30 days consistently see inbox placement decay within 60 to 90 days, particularly on Gmail.
Pull any domain where seed tests show inbox placement below 70% on Gmail or below 60% on Outlook for two consecutive weekly tests. Define this threshold before the setup goes live, not after a placement problem is already in progress.
A domain with zero history that receives 50 cold emails on its first day is flagged immediately by Gmail and Outlook. Start at 10 to 15 sends per inbox per day and increase no faster than 20% per week.
